Concept for the inner courtyard of the new headquarters of an energy provider, which is accessible to the public from two sides:
The rectangular motif that characterizes the building structure and the sculptural façade design is the inspiration for this sculpture, which unfolds into the space from a rectangular surface.
Motifs are ‘cut’ from a 20 cm thick ‘plate’ (painted blue on one side and matt silver on the other) and then folded in different directions, with the ‘cut edges’ appearing brown. Only three elements are added to this body and seem to come from inside the ‘disc’. These are individually colored.
The ‘cut-out’ shapes could be reminiscent of taps, plugs, sockets, fibre optic cables or connecting rings of gas pipelines.
The sculpture (like the architecture) is laid out at right angles, but slightly twisted towards the inner courtyard. The result is a colorful ‘turnstile’ that both structures and gives rhythm to the courtyard – and from the upper floors presents itself as a stage space that is open on all sides.
